Nothing conjures up memories of my grandmother and her farm like fresh blooming peonies in the spring. I recall anticipating the opening of the first buds, were they white or pink? I could never remember which bush was what colour. I could hardly wait to bring the fresh cuttings and their heavenly spring has arrived aroma into the farmhouse.
The peony is a hardy perennial that never fails to produce a full bush of blooms generation after generation. The traditional peonies come in hues of white, light pink and a shades magenta. They are available today in brilliant corals and yellows and are used in a variety of event floral applications. Their availability is a short window of 2 to 3 months in the spring from April to June with the majority being imported from Holland.
Rustic weddings and events are still on trend and peonies have a place once again, popping up in bridal bouquets, arrangements an on arbours everywhere. They are the inspiration behind Posh Peony Events and the first flower I fell in love with. My back yard awaits for them to awaken this spring after a long slumber. Year after year they appear without fail and I'm reminded the cycle must go on, and long after I'm gone another child will enjoy the wonder and beauty of a blooming peony in my garden for the first time. Timeless and Forever.
